Second lady's bus tour starts Wednesday in Columbus

New details were released today by the White House about the visit of Dr. Jill Biden and U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to Ohio.

The three-day “Community College to Career” bus tour is designed "to highlight the unique role community colleges play in developing a flexible, highly-skilled 21st-century workforce to meet emerging regional business needs."

Biden has been a community college instructor for 18 years and Solis used to be a community college trustee. They will be hearing from students, educators and employers during the tour.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Biden and Solis will visit Columbus State Community College's Center for Workforce Development to listen to program participants and industry partners.

At 1:30 p.m. it's on to suburban Dayton where the duo will tour the production line at DG Medical with workforce development partners Sinclair Community College and BioOhio.

The final Ohio stop is set for 4:15 at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College to hear how Labor Department funding is helping to expand the Health Careers Collaborative.

The tour continues to Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia on Thursday and Friday.

President Barack Obama announced a new $8 billion Community College to Career Fund earlier this month, co-administered by the Department of Labor and Department of Education, "to forge new partnerships between community colleges and businesses to train two million workers with skills that will lead directly to jobs."
