Republican Jean Schmidt of Loveland won a special election in 2005 to succeed Rob Portman in the 2nd U.S. House District. Portman, also a Republican, served 12 years before becoming President Bush's U.S. trade representative.

In2006, Schmidt beat Democrat Victoria Wulsin by about 2,500 votes to retain her seat in the southern Ohio district that stretches from eastern Cincinnati across seven counties.

November election

It will be a rematch in the 2nd District this fall when Wulsin (Campaign Web site) again challenges Schmidt.
