The Ohio Parole Board has recommended that Gov. Ted Strickland spare the life of Jason Getsy, a Trumbull County man who is scheduled to be executed next month for the 1995 murder of Ann Serafino, 68.

The board voted 5-2 in favor of clemency, citing inconsistency in sentencing among other reasons for commuting Getsy's sentence to life without the possibility of parole.

Getsy, 33, is scheduled for execution on  Aug. 18.

Strickland has the final authority to allow the execution to forward, to commute Getsy's sentence, or hand down a modified punishment.
