Gov. Ted Strickland filled one of two vacancies on the Ohio Board of Education with a bilingual
aide from the Fremont City Schools.
Juanita Sanchez, 54, will take a seat on the 19-member panel held by Jennifer Sheets, the former board president from Pomeroy who resigned last summer. Sanchez has worked for the school district since 2007 and previously was assistant director of the foundation at Terra State Community College in Fremont. She also serves on the Minority Achievement Council for the Fremont School District. The state board consists of eight members appointed by the governor and 11 who are elected to represent a region of the state. All serve four-year terms. Sanchez will complete Sheets' term to an appointed seat, which expires Dec. 31, 2010. The second vacancy was created last summer by the resignation of Carl Wick, an appointed member from Centerville.
