National Democrats have been saying that two races in Ohio are high on their radar as chances to turn Republican-held U.S. House districts from "red" to "blue" seats. Now the national party is pledging to put its - and its donors' - money behind Democrats Mary Jo Kilroy and John Boccieri .

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has proclaimed that Kilroy and Boccieri are two of 10 Democratic House candidates nationwide thus far included in a "Red to Blue Program" designed to help top prospects running in now GOP-held districts raise money and run the most efficient campaigns possible.

Kilroy is a Franklin County commissioner running against Republican state Sen. Steve Stivers of Columbus in the central Ohio 15th Congressional District being vacated by longtime GOP Rep. Deborah Pryce of Upper Arlington. Kilroy lost a close race to Pryce in 2006.

Boccieri is a state senator from New Middletown running in northeast Ohio's 16th district. He will be taking one of two Republicans - state Sen. Kirk Schuring of Canton and Matt Miller , an Ashland County commissioner - vying for the nomination in the wake of the announcement by veteran Rep. Ralph Regula , R-Navarre, that he will retire at the end of the year.
